Mortgage approvals fell more than expected in June and lending came in weaker than forecast Bank of England figures showed on Thursday suggesting the housing market will continue to soften.

Mortgage rates remain at a record low level

WASHINGTON - Mortgage rates were unchanged last week at the lowest point in decades, but it hasn’t been enough to jump-start the housing market. Government-sponsored mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday the average rate for 30-year fixed loans this week was 4.57 percent.
