A federal indictment unsealed Thursday alleges that Troy David Chaika, 43, was “Individual 1″ in a $43 million mortgage fraud scheme. Chaika is accused of working with Dustin Lee LaFavre to profit from the fraudulent bulk purchases of more than 180 residential properties.

Two Kansas City area men pleaded guilty Thursday to participating in a $23 million mortgage fraud scheme. The criminal activity involving 350 residential properties is among the largest mortgage fraud cases prosecuted in the area, said U.S. Attorney Beth Phillips.
